Fact Sheet:
Program Description:

The University of South Florida Education Abroad Office (USF EAO) is committed to supporting students in their study abroad goals. If you are interested in participating in a program that is not listed on the the Education Abroad Office's website, then  you will be able to apply for the non-USF Program after beginning the process with an advisor in the EAO. Such programs are referred to as "Non-Affiliate Programs."

All students are required to complete an application both with the host organization and USF in order to participate in the non-affiliate program of their choosing.  All non-affiliate programs must be reviewed by the Risk and Safety Office at USF World. Students will not be cleared to travel until their application has successfully undergone a review and been approved the Risk and Security Office at USF.

These are programs administered and supervised by a third party organization; this category also includes directly enrolling in a foreign university. USF charges an administrative cost but otherwise all other costs associated with the program would be paid directly to the non-USF organization or university. In most cases, the academic credit associated with the program would come from another institution and would be transferred into the student's USF record after the transcript is received at the USF EAO. The EAO has included some non-USF programs in our main Program listing, but students are free to continue looking elsewhere and work with an Education Abroad Advisor on such programs.

Important Considerations:

When choosing to pursue a Non-USF Program, consider the following:

Have you considered all of the USF Program Options, and already determined that the Non-USF Program best fits your goals?

  • Review the Program Listing on this website or talk with an Education Abroad Advisor regarding program options.

Do you have accurate and sufficient information about the Non-USF Program?

  • Consider the academic, cultural, living arrangements, and other aspects of the program.

  • Ensure you understand the program's costs and their fee payment deadlines.

  • Understand what it means to do a Non-USF Program; it is very different than doing a USF-sponsored or organized program:

    • Limited services are provided for Non-USF Programs. The USF EAO generally can only advise on the administrative process at the University of South Florida. We are not able to offer advising for schools or programs we are not affiliated with and have limited knowledge of. However, we will work with students to obtain information if possible.

    • Non-USF Programs will require students to pay very close attention to detail and do additional work prior to departure in order to ensure they have sufficient documentation submitted to USF as required.

· Consider the safety of your intended travel location.
USF World has categorized countries into three tiers that each have specific restrictions.  Tier One Countries (or locations) have the most significant risk. By USF World definition, a Tier One country has been issued a Travel Warning by the U.S. Department of State advising US citizens to avoid traveling to the country or portion of the country. Student travel to a Tier One location is not permitted whether it is the intended destination or transfer point. Tier Two travel may also not be permitted.  Please review the Tier Risk Designation Chart to confirm the Tier Level for your chosen destination.  If you are traveling to a Tier One or a Tier Two location with significant risks due to health, safety or security concerns, you will need to be submit a petition to the Global Risk Assessment Committee.  This process can be lengthy so please register your travel at least 6-8 weeks prior to departureTo review the history of the GRAC and how the registration process works, click this link

· Will your non-USF Program conflict with your Graduation Plans? Often, transcripts from Non-USF Programs may take longer to arrive to your USF EA Program Coordinator, which will delay the credits appearing on your USF record.

After you consider the above details:

· Submit Education Abroad Application through this website:

    o After you submit the EAO Application, you will be contacted by an Education Abroad Program Advisor to further discuss your program;

o You will also be able to review a checklist of your next steps in the preparations on your account homepage on this website.

o  There is  an administrative charge of $375.00 when you commit to the program.
