Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I apply for Education Abroad scholarships?
    All scholarship applications for Education Abroad scholarship are now submitted through USF’s STARS system (the Education Abroad website is no longer accepting scholarship application). Login to STARS using your USF NetID and password to complete the scholarship application(s).

  2. If I just want to apply to a need-based scholarship, do I have to fill out the Statement of Purpose?
    Yes, you must fill out the entire application to be eligible for any of the Education Abroad Administered Scholarships.

  3. Do I have to apply for each Education Abroad Administered Scholarship?
    Once you complete the opening questionnaire in the STARS system, you will be able to view all scholarships for which you are eligible in the Recommended Scholarships section of your profile, including the individual Education Abroad scholarships. You will need to submit applications for each Education Abroad scholarship you are eligible for, but the Education Abroad scholarships all have the same required documents for submission which can be shared across multiple scholarship applications.

  4. Will I be notified when a decision has been made about whether or not I am awarded an Education Abroad Administered Scholarship?
    You may monitor the status of your application(s) in STARS, only if you are awarded will you receive an e-mail notification from Education Abroad.

  5. Is a copy of my transcript or letter of recommendation required?
    No, neither an unofficial transcript nor letter of recommendation are required scholarship application materials.

  6. If I am doing a University Related Travel Registration/Insurance-only program application, what is my required deposit to be eligible for an Education Abroad Administered Scholarship?
    For this registration, either payment of the insurance charges which will be posted to OASIS after your insurance application is processed or proof of deposit with the organization leading the trip counts as the deposit for the trip.

  7. Are non-USF students eligible for Education Abroad Administered Scholarships?
    No. Students must be degree-seeking at USF to be eligible for Education Abroad scholarships.

  8. Who can sign off on my Cost Estimate Worksheet?
    Only your USF Education Abroad Office advisor can sign this form.

  9. How do I know when my Education Abroad Scholarship application is complete?
    Login to the STARS system and go to the Scholarship Application section of your account. Once you have submitted a complete scholarship application it will appear under this section with the date you applied. If you do not see a scholarship with an applied to date, go back to the scholarship application you started and complete the application.
     
  10. Are USF students eligible for Education Abroad Scholarships if they are going on non-USF programs?
    Yes, however, the student must fill out the Non-Affiliate Program Traveler application, along with the Education Abroad Scholarship application.
     
  11. When is my payment due and how do I pay?
    Payment is due by the scholarship deadline or within 5 days of charges being posted to the student's account, whichever is later. Students are responsible for checking their OASIS account for the term they are going abroad to see when charges have been posted.
