The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is considered the largest and most prestigious gathering of worldwide advertising professionals, designers, digital innovators and marketers. Each June in Cannes, 12,000 registered delegates and major players from nearly 100 countries visit the event to celebrate the best of creativity in brand communication, discuss industry issues, attend seminars/workshops and network with one another. Thousands of ads from all over the world are showcased and judged. In 2014, a record number of entries were received – 37,427.
The festival features classes, seminars and workshops tailored for young professionals to give them access and exposure to current industry trends, industry superstars and galleries that display the best advertising in the world. The students are able to network with other students, as well as with various PR, advertising agencies and creative leaders on a global level. Participants get to see first-hand the world’s best advertising and marketing campaigns and meet the people who created them.

USF provides program participants with sickness/accident and emergency medical evacuation insurance valid for the dates of the program. Those who will travel independently, either in advance of the program or after the program ends, must ensure that they have insurance coverage valid outside the U.S.
You will be responsible for reserving and purchasing your international airline ticket. Students are welcome to set their dates of travel according to preference. Please be advised that accommodations will not be provided to students wishing to arrival earlier or stay later than the established program dates. As you will be traveling independently, airport transfers cannot be made.
U.S. citizens going to France on this program need a passport valid for 6 months at entry and 3 months beyond the last planned date of travel (Last Updated: July 2015). For more information please see the Department of State website for France.

Faculty and Contacts
Debra (“Deb”) Smith joined the University of South Florida Mass Communications faculty in August of 2011 as an Advertising Instructor. She teaches undergraduate courses in Advertising Creativity as well as Introduction to Advertising & Integrated Branding. Along with Professor Hal Vincent, she also helps to advise the USF Advertising Club.
Smith has over 25 years of professional creative experience in the advertising industry. She worked for 20 years at Saatchi & Saatchi’s Los Angeles office (1990-2010) as a writer and Associate Creative Director before joining the USF faculty. She was a creative on accounts such as Toyota, Vons/Pavilions Grocers, Yamaha Motors and Qantas Airlines. She has also freelanced for several companies including J. Walter Thompson, Disney/ABC, L.A. Gear Footwear and Gift.org - a Los Angeles-based non-profit organization for children.
She earned her M.A. in Mass Communications from California State University in Fullerton and has a B.A. in Professional & Creative Writing from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock.
